The X30 VST-effect by TSE Plugins is a high-gain guitar amplifier plug-in simulating the ENGL E-530 tube preamp very well. It's equally suited for high gain metal and nice crunch or dirty clean. X30 features 4x internal oversampling, stereo / dual mode, a drive knob, and a 4-band EQ. The great thing about this plugin is that it´s really easy to use, very intuitive, and sounds great. With only the tube screamer though, you won´t be able to achieve really heavy sounds. It can also be used as a standalone program. One issue that I had while getting this program was that they ask you to register, just like with Amplitube 4. This VST plugin is free and does the job quite well, and it contains a few amplifiers and pedals. However, one downfall of this guitar VST plugin only works with 32bit, which means it won’t work on a 64-bit system. The interface on this one is a little hard to figure out, but once you do, you can achieve a wide variety of sounds.
Overview
The Brainworx bx_greenscreamer Overdrive is an exacting plugin emulation of the classic Ibanez™ TS808® Tube Screamer®, one of the most popular overdrive pedals ever made. Although most closely connected with Stevie Ray Vaughan, guitarists from Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, to Steve Vai to John Mayer have made this classic pedal a key component of their tone.
So what made this pedal so special? Well, first take light-to-medium overdrive and add electronic field-effect (FET) bypass switching. Next, mix it with transistor buffers at both the input and output and bake it with an IC chip that produces symmetrical clipping of the input waveform. The result is the creation of a boutique pedal legend.
The Tube Screamer first appeared in 1979 in its original version -- now highly sought-after and collectible. While all other overdrives built prior to this model were built around transistors, this pedal was the first overdrive to use the JRC 4558D integrated circuit (IC) chip. It is the most important component to the pedal’s sound and is responsible for its distinctive, thick, vocal-like, mid-range tone.
