Marantz is a company that develops and sells high-end audio products.[1] The company was founded in New York, but is now based in Japan.
Marantz Portable Cassette Recorder
The first Marantz audio product was designed and built by Saul Marantz in his home in Kew Gardens, New York.[2] The company had a major influence in the development of high fidelity audio systems, and reached the high point of their success in the mid to late 1970s.
During the 1980s, while owned by Philips,[3][4] a pioneer in compact disc technology, Marantz sold some very well received CD players, but other products in the line were not as successful as in the past. Beginning in the early 1990s, Marantz focused on higher-end components. In 2001, Marantz Japan acquired the brand from Philips and owned all overseas sales subsidiaries.
2002 merged Marantz with competitor Denon into D&M Holdings Inc., later named in D+M Group. On March 1, 2017, Sound United LLC completed the acquisition of D+M Holdings.[5]

- 1980 Superscope sells the Marantz brand, dealer network, and all overseas assets (except U.S. and Canada) to Philips Electronics
- 1983 Marantz's audio enhancement technology (Marantz Enhanced Digital Stereo) is introduced
- 1992 Philips acquires U.S. and Canada trademarks and dealer network
- 1997 Saul Marantz dies aged 85
- 2001 Marantz Japan Inc. acquires the brand and all overseas sales subsidiaries
- 2002 Marantz Japan and Denon merge to form D&M Holdings, to later be joined by other higher-end audio equipment brands such as Boston Acoustics
- 2008 Philips sells its remaining stake in D&M Holdings, ending a 28-year relationship between Philips and Marantz

This Marantz PMD201 is a mono cassette deck, it was first sold by Marantz in 1985 with a recommended retail price of USD $380 and discontinued 13 years later in 1998.
The main features of the Marantz PMD201 are: 2 heads, mechanical 3 digit tape counter, manual tape type selection and capable of handling normal, chrome and metal tapes, belt driven single-capstan transport.

Level meters used on the PMD201 is a single analog needle VU reading meter. Mechanical transport controls for reliable PMD201 transport function selection. 9,5 cm/s faster recording/playback speed used in the PMD201 offers extended frequency response, increased dynamic range and transient response. PMD201, playback speed may be adjusted with pitch control. Cue and review can be used to easily and quickly locate the beginning of a passage.
To make live recordings this deck has 2 microphone inputs to connect microphones with a jack connector. For undisturbed listening a jack connector for a pair of mono headphones is supplied. Connection to other audio components for plaback can be achieved by a RCA cable and recording from a source by a RCA cable. All main transport commands can be issued remotely with a wired remote control.
